LOCATION
Planes de la Baronia is a mountain village in the interior of Alicante. Planes is very well communicated by road, being almost all the way along the motorway. From Alicante on the A-7, then taking the Benimarfull exit on the CV-700 (76KM - 1 hour) and from Alcoy (20Km - 25 minutes). From the interior, on the A-31 Madrid Motorway (E-903), taking the CV-80 from Sax you can join the A-7. From the south, on the Murcia motorway, you can take the AP-7 at Elche, linking up with the A-7 at San Vicente. From the northwest, we can easily access the Valencia motorway without leaving the A-7. This allows Planes to be 1 hour from Alicante International Airport (ALC) and the train station with the AVE Madrid-Alicante high speed train. There is a regular bus service from Alicante to Alcoy from 6.15am to 9.30pm. From Alcoy to Planes there is a bus leaving at 13.50h and returning from Planes to Alcoy at 8.19h.
ENVIRONMENT
Planes de la Baronía is a village of noble title, located at the foot of a Muslim castle with strong walls from the 12th and 13th centuries, whose dominion and control was held by the warlord Al Azraq until the reconquest undertaken by King Jaime I. Planes is a pretty village with an urban structure of steep streets, steps and fresh water fountains. It is notable for its rugged demarcation that stretches south of the river Serpis over the northern slopes of the Almudaina and Albureca mountain ranges. Deep ravines drain the topographic complexity of its relief. Behind it is the Sierra de San Cristóbal, with the particularity that it has a Way of the Cross that leads to the Chapel of Santo Cristo, a very well-kept and sturdily built chapel. Its main crop is cherries. It is impressive to contemplate the cherry trees in blossom or to participate in the cherry picking. Its natural environment is unique with hiking routes such as the Barranco de la Encantada, cycling routes or climbing.
